3 Ways To Give Your Home a Revamp
Even when we have created spaces in our homes that we love, it’s inevitable that the time
will come where you feel like things need a little refresh. Deciding that it’s time for a change
up doesn’t need to be a huge and expense task, often it’s just about knowing what small
changes to make and how to make them with confidence.
Here’s 3 ways to make small changes that will have big impact and revive the energy in your home.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE – IN A NEW WAY
Often our homes remain the same for a long period of time and our home styling takes on a
‘default setting’ type existence. Just because we buy a particular piece for a particular space,
doesn’t mean it needs to stay there until the end of time!
Whether it’s décor items or pieces of furniture, take a step back to edit your home and
consider if there’s items that could find a new place to live for a while. Have fun with it, mix
things up...you’ll be surprise what a big impact you can create just by moving things around.
Tip: By purchasing thoughtfully and keeping things in your home in a similar colour palette,
this will make moving things around your home much easier.
CREATE MEANINGFUL VIGNETTES
Strip back the space you want to revamp to create a blank canvas. Look at the surfaces you
have to work with and think of ways to make meaningful moments by creating considered
vignettes. When creating vignettes always remember the design principle of odds over
evens. This means grouping things in threes or fives instead of twos or fours as a way to
create a more interesting visual impact.
Use items that tell a story together and add personality to a space. Purchase a new piece
that you love and pair everything back with similar colours, tones and textures to that piece.
Don’t be afraid to mix new items with well-loved items you’ve collected over the years.
When deciding what to include, think of ways to create layers that add depth and volume
and use items with various heights to create movement and balance.
Tip: The best way to create layers and volume is with books. Stacking beautiful books and
including them in your styling is an inexpensive way to add personality and visual interest.
INTRODUCE IMPACT WITH HERO PIECES
Often our spaces can feel like they’re lacking something. You can have beautiful furniture
and creatively styled décor, but the overall feel is just not hitting it. That’s where a hero
piece comes in. Whether it’s an oversized vessel, eye-catching pendants, or a thoughtfully
designed occasional chair, adding that character-filled piece can be the thing that makes the
room feel complete and gives your home that ‘wow moment’.
Tip: Add foliage to your vessels. Whether it’s store bought or foraged from your garden,
including natural elements like twigs, branches and greenery can breathe life into a space
while providing texture and movement. If your foliage is just not sitting right, use a florist
foam block or place tissue paper or cardboard in bottom of the vessel to prop it up.
